Auction - Proxy and General Bidding Rules
The majority of these items are 100% donations, with all monies received going to our two charities: River Valley Ranch Therapeutic Riding Program and Enchanted Haven Horse Rescue.
Please note that by placing a proxy bid on an item in the 33rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Horse Show, you agree to abide by the following terms and conditions.
What is a proxy bid?
A proxy bid is a bid you place on an auction item when you will not be at the show to bid in person.
Who may proxy bid?
You must be at least eighteen (18) years old to place a bid. You do NOT have to be an entrant, vendor, judge, or official show staff to bid. Proxy bids will be accepted on pieces indicated on the show’s auction web site. The show holder reserves the right to refuse bids from people with whom she has had bad dealings in the past.
How may I make a proxy bid?
Proxy bids will be accepted via e-mail until 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Friday, March 22, 2013. To place a proxy bid, you must send an e-mail to the show holder, Betsy Andrews, at [email protected], with the subject line “MAR Auction Bid.” The e-mail must contain the following information:
How are bids processed?
All bidding begins at the stated amount. Some models do have reserves. As others bid against you, your bid will be increased in one dollar ($1.00) increments up to but not exceeding your maximum bid. For example, if you are willing to pay a maximum of $100.00 for an item, and the highest competing bid is $75.00; you will win the item for $76.00.
I will try to confirm receipt of all bids made by e-mail, and notify bidders if they have been outbid. I cannot guarantee that I will have time to actively track bidding, especially during the final hours of the online bidding period. So please bid early.
Please also note that I cannot be held responsible for bids not received in a timely manner due to power failure, internet congestion, or other uncontrollable circumstances. No late bids will be accepted under any circumstances.
The actual auctions will take place over the weekend of March 23-24, 2013, during the show. Each item will be sold to the highest bidder, to be determined from both online and in-person bids. In case of a tie with online bids, the item will go to the earlier bidder. In case of a tie between an online bid and an in-person bid, the item will go to the in-person bid.
What if I am the winning bidder?
If you have placed a proxy bid and are the winning bidder on an item, you will be notified via e-mail by Wednesday, March 27, 2013 (more likely Monday or Tuesday) of the item(s) you have won. Please note that USPS Priority Mail shipping and insurance costs need to be added to the bid price for all items sold to online bidders. I am willing to ship internationally – when you place your bid you MUST let me know that it will be an international shipment. Payment for online bids may be in the form of a personal check, cashier’s check, or money order sent to Betsy Andrews – MAR Proxy Bid, 115 Earle Branch Rd., Centreville, MD 21617. Or, they may be made by Paypal. PayPal payments may be made to: [email protected], but, as this is a benefit auction, please send any funds as a gift. Payment must arrive within one week of notification that you are the winner or the item will be offered to the second highest bidder or re-sold (choice of show coordinator). No exceptions made under any circumstances, and no time payments. Items paid for by check will be held up to three weeks from receipt of payment before being shipped. If paid for by money order, cashier’s check, or Paypal, the item will be shipped as soon as possible after receipt of payment. Don’t forget to add postage/insurance!
Bidding in person, both at the live and silent auction, will also be accepted. A live auction may be held on Saturday morning, and silent auctions will be held throughout the weekend, with bidding closing at about 4 pm Sunday afternoon. Please bid in whole dollar amounts.
Please note that the various auctions for certain pieces may be subject to different terms. Please also note that the show manager reserves the right to withdraw any piece from proxy bidding.
Item descriptions are given by the donor. MAR Show Manager cannot be held liable for any information supplied by a donor. If insurance is not purchased by the buyer, MAR Show Management cannot be held responsible for any damage to or loss of the model.
IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO PAY, DO NOT BID. Bids from those who have backed out in prior auctions will not be accepted.
